Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. The young woman was just a teenager when her father who worked as an carnival barker, died. Her mother was forced to take on jobs like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth was a student and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. But she only stayed in school for two years before going on to pursue an acting profession. It was a difficult path to follow. Although she got an opportunity as a hat check girl in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication, no theatre jobs came her way. In New York, she worked in a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting before moving to Boston. She was in Boston where she worked during the night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time, was an usherette. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
